Popular beaches

The beaches in Bendiorm rank among the top highlights on the Costa Blanca. You have a great choice of top beach opportunities, from the bright sandy beaches of Benidorm city to small and picturesque bays and quiet bathing spots just around the corner of the town.

Playa de Levante is one of the main beaches, about 2 km long and located between Punta Pine and Punta Canfali. Playa de Levante is also one of the most busy beaches of Benidorm. This is a great place to go to if you like fun and entertainment. There is a wide range of activities on offer with facilities for jet skiing, water skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, snorkling and diving. Or you fancy an exciting banana boat ride...? Then Playa de Levante is also the place to be! For children there are several playgrounds.

Playa de Poniente is also located in the city center of Benidorm. Playa de Poniente is especially popular for older people. A wide range of activities like gymnastics, yoga and fitness is offered here. Next to the beach you find the promenade, along which you can walk to the Mediterranean Balcony, one of the most beautiful attractions of Benidorm!

Between the two lively main beaches you find Playa del Mal Pas. This is definitely one of the quieter bathing spots in the city. The bay of Mal Pas is located just behind the small port of Benidorm, next to the Mediterranean Balcony. The sandy beach is sloping gently and here you find calm and crystal-clear water. Snorkling is possible along the rocks and while swimming, you have a nice view on the palm trees and the church Sant Jaume i Santa Anna.

Just a stone's throw away from the lively city centre you find two other nice beaches: Cala Tio Ximo and Playa Almadrava. Due to the clear water and rocky bottom, these beaches are excellent for snorkling and exploring the underwater world. Both Cala Tio Ximo and Almadrava are also ideal for everyone who wants to enjoy a quiet day on the beach or a nice day in a beautiful natural setting.

Old town of Benidorm

The old town of Benidorm (El Casco Antiguo) is located between the Poniente and Levante. It is a maze of nice and cozy streets with plenty of food and beverage outlets and numerous shops. The main shopping streets are Calle Gambo, Avenida de Martinez Alejos, and Paseo de la Carretera. A walk to the old church at the top of the cliffs is worth it! Be surprised by the whitewashed houses with cast iron balconies and take a look at the castle square and Mediterranean Balcony with its bright blue and white colours. At the old center you will also find the chess board that can be seen in many photos of Benidorm. It is the perfect location to watch the sun go down behind Alicante! From the chessboard you also have a nice view of the 18th century parish church of San Jaime and Santa Ana with its characteristic blue-tiled domes.

The weather

Benidorm is the place to be for a sun holiday on the Costa Blanca! Benidorm's climate is considered to be one of the best in Europe. You can enjoy pleasant weather almost all year round. This is due to the unique location of Benidorm between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains in the hinterland. Even in winter it is still spring-like, with temperatures around 20 degrees. Summers are warm and sunny. Around February there is a possibility to see snow on the surrounding mountains and there can be a cold wind. Even then, however, you can fully enjoy the sun in windless places!

Night life

Widely known, people come to Benidorm not only for the sun and the beach, but also for the vibrant nightlife. Until midnight it is a good place to relax with a cocktail during the live music that pops out of the speakers almost everywhere. Mainly along the boulevard but also in the English quarter in the Rincon de Loix there are various imitation shows by famous singers such as Michael Jackson, where you can put on your dancing shoes. After midnight, the nightclubs and nightclubs on the outskirts of Benidorm go wild until the wee hours.

Restaurants & tapas

As is known, Mediterranean cuisine is the healthiest in the world. The use of olive oil, fresh vegetables and especially fish are the ingredients that you will find on the menu in the mainly Spanish restaurants. But also the variety of nationalities that visit Benidorm has ensured that there is a large choice of international cuisine. Do not skip “paella” during your visit. But you will also find many other rice dishes with mainly fish on the menu in the more refined restaurants.

Spain is known for it’s tapas. Benidorm offers a variety of tapas bars. Nice tapas restaurants with big variety can be found in the famous tapas street ‘Calle Santo Domingo’. For a few euros you already have an afternoon meal because with every drink you get a tapa.

Markets

In Spain, almost every town or village has a weekly outdoor market. They are set up early in the morning and usually don’t repack until after 2pm. There are even two in Benidorm, the largest of which is in the Rincon de Loix on Wednesdays and Sundays. There is plenty of choice of shoes, bags, clothing, etc. But you have also come to the right place for fruit and vegetables. There is a similar, slightly smaller market on Wednesdays at the train station.

But for daily shopping there are the covered markets where you will find fresh fruit, meat and fish beautifully displayed at the best prices.

Shopping

For the shopping enthusiasts, Benidorm has several options. First of all around the Plaza triangular at the end of the Levante boulevard, but also the well-known ”Passage de la Carretera” in the car-free old center. But also in the Rincon de Loix you will find plenty of fashion, gift and souvenir shops.
